Esterfication

ESTERFICATION-is the general name for a chemical reaction in which two chemicals (typically an acid and an alcohol) form an ester as the reaction product (water).

Synthesis-When a carboxylic acid and an alcohol react, a water molecule is removed, and an ester molecule is formed.

Example- acetic acid and ethanol react to form ethyl ethanoate and water

H3C-COOH + HO-CH2-CH3     →     H3C-COO-CH2-CH3 + H2O
