Ozone, O3(g), is produced from oxygen, O2(g), by electrical discharge during thunderstorms.The unbalanced equation below represents the reaction that forms ozone.

Oxygen atom does not have a full valence shell

Both oxygen's in O2 has achieved an octet (Noble gas configuration) while an oxygen atom has 6 valence electrons.
